ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri for their alleged involvement in an attack on Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asmat Junejo and some other policemen. Junejo and five other policemen were injured on September 1, 2014 in a clash with PTI and PAT workers when they stormed the Pakistan Television (PTV) headquarters and the Parliament House.
ATC Judge Sohail Ikram took up the case on Tuesday and issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the PTI and PAT chiefs and other people linked to the attack for not attending the previous hearings. The judge directed Deputy Superintendent of Police Idrees Rathore to arrest the people linked to the attack and produce them in the court. It is pertinent to mention that cases were registered against Khan, Qadri and hundreds of workers and leaders of the two parties for violation of Section 144 of the Maintenance of Public Order and damage to the state property.
