LAHORE: Two brothers and a passer-by were gunned down when unidentified armed men opened firing on them near Azadi Chowk in Tibbi City police limits on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Rana Ayub and his brother Rana Shakoor, and a passerby Hafiz Naeem. According to details, both the brothers were going to a court for a hearing in an attempted murder case when four assailants intercepted them near Azadi Chowk and opened indiscriminate firing on them, injuring Ayub, his brother Shakoor, and the passer-by.
The firing incident sparked terror and panic among locals who ran to save their lives. However, the assailants easily managed to escape. Upon being informed, police and rescuers reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced two Ayub and Shakoor brought dead while Hafiz Naeem succumbed to his wounds.
A police officer said that the incident was result of an old enmity. He said that the deceased were going to attend the hearing of a case at a sessions court when their rivals intercepted them and opened indiscriminate firing.
Police said that different police teams have been constituted to investigate the tragic incident. Police shifted the bodies to the city morgue for autopsies. Police officials confirmed that had recorded statements of eyewitnesses.
A recent spate of violence and targeted killings has hit the city. Earlier, former Pakistan People’s Party contestant Babar Sohail Butt was gunned down last week.
