KHAIRPUR: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Khairpur on Friday convicted a man in a kidnapping case and sentenced him to 62-years.
Special judge Sayed Kausar Ali Bukhari announced the judgment in the case of kidnapping of Sub Inspector Zaheeruddin Baber against Abdul Raheem alias Jimy Burdi.
The court awarded the convict punishments under section 365-A (25 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000); under section 353 (for two years); under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (10-years and a fine of Rs25,000); and under Section 7-H of the ATA (25 years imprisonment). The FIR stated that Jimy Burdi had kidnapped a sub inspector of police, Zaheeruddin Baber, from the national highway in the jurisdiction of Tando Musti police station in 2013. The official was later recovered from the Katchha area of Indus River near Piryaloi. The convict was arrested as well.
Teenage girl found ‘killed’: A mutilated body of a teenage girl was found near Ghotki on Friday. Police said the body of the girl later identified as 15-year-old Siddiqa Sawand was found from a sugarcane field near Ghotki bypass. It was taken to the Ghotki hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. An autopsy was carried out and the body handed over to Lal Bux Sawand, father of the deceased, who took it back to his village, Janan Sawand, for burial.
