ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the National Assembly (NA) session on Monday at 5:00pm in the Parliament House.
The president has summoned the National Assembly session in exercise of powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution.
The amended Election Bill 2017 likely to be approved from the National Assembly.
The government has directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNAs to ensure their presence in the session to cope with the protest by the opposition and lack quorum.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq will chair the session in which the amended Election Bill 2017 will be presented for approval.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to move an adjournment motion in the National Assembly, seeking an explanation from Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif over his remarks that the party believes were “contrary to the national policy dealing with terrorism”.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Murad Saeed will move the adjournment motion under Rule 109 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the assembly.
Asif, while speaking at the Asia Society Forum in New York recently, had said the Haqqani network and Jamaatud Dawa’s Hafiz Saeed were liabilities for Pakistan and asked the US to give Pakistan some time to rid the country of them.
He had also maintained that former PM Nawaz Sharif paid a political price for his peace efforts with India.
The draft of the PTI motion read: “The routine business of the House should be adjourned to make the minister explain as to how he took a position contrary to the national policy for dealing with terrorism.”
The PTI also wants the minister to explain how he attributed the causes for Sharif’s disqualification by a five-judge bench of the apex court other than what the court has narrated in its judgement.
“Why his [Asif’s] remarks on Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification should not be taken as the product of a well-thought-out scheme of causing irreparable damage to the critical state institutions like the judiciary at a global level,” the motion reads.
It further asks the foreign minister “why he did not apprise the Parliament, which he is answerable to, of his knowledge of the so-called conspiracy or for that matter, conspirators who had been involved in conspiring against the former prime minister who was the leader of the house as well”.
The motion further asks the foreign minister to explain “what objectives he intended to achieve by making such an irresponsible statement on a land that is filled with prejudices against Pakistan and before an audience who is abhorrently critical to Pakistan and its institutions”.
Earlier, the opposition benches protested against the controversial statement of Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, alleging he is supporting India’s perspective.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI)’s legislator and opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed had submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly, demanding Khawaja’s termination from his important position and called for an explanation.
