ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court resumed hearing of the reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Secretary General Jahangir Tareen on Monday, which is filed seeking the disqualification of both PTI leaders.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar who headed the three-member bench of the Supreme Court, began hearing the case on the petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi.
PTI chairman’s council Naeem Bukhari presented his arguments during the hearing, where he stated that a general idea persists that Imran has taken a U-turn on the inquiries concerning his case by the court, but that’s simply not true.
Honorable Chief Justice, in his opening remarks, said that the apex court wants both parties to get a proper trial, where both of the concerning parties can present their case, in order to uncover the truth behind this case.
Justice Saqib Nisar noted that the petitioner has argued against the change in position of Imran during the proceedings.
“Mr. Bukhari, you present arguments in haste,” he remarked, adding that the bench needs time to process the arguments.
SC adjourns Jehangir Tareen disqualification case till October 23
At the last hearing, a notice was issued to the Additional Attorney General which sought an opinion on Sections 15-A and 15-B of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Act.
Chief Justice Nisar held a position that the court would hear the miscellaneous application filed by the PTI chairman regarding the money trail on Oct 23 (today).
The petition was filed to seek disqualification of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and the party’s Secretary General Jahangir Tareen from holding public office, owning offshore firms, over non-disclosure of assets, and receiving funds from prohibited sources.
