ISLAMABAD: The daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, on Friday criticised Supreme Court’s decision not to disqualify Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a case filed by PML-N’s Hanif Abbasi.
Comparing judgement by the apex court in the case with the one that resulted in her father’s ouster, Maryam, in a series of tweets, said the bias of those demanding accountability had been exposed. “It proves that Iqama was just a smokescreen, while the real reason was to target Nawaz,” she tweeted in Urdu. “There is not a shadow of doubt that the target of conspiracies, sit-ins and revenge-driven accountability was Nawaz Sharif as he is the true representative of the people,” she said in another tweet. She said the Supreme Court verdict had vindicated the notion that Nawaz was unjustly sent home. She also accused the apex court of double-standards for not holding Imran to account for not declaring his offshore company while Nawaz was sent home for not ‘declaring an unclaimed salary’. Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb also criticised the Supreme Court decision of not disqualifying Imran Khan,
saying it will set a bad precedent for Pakistan the impact of which will become visible over the years. “Today, a loyal thief and a bandit has been made a sacrificial lamb to protect the king,” said the minister.
