ISLAMABAD: The accountability court has rejected the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif plea against the filing of a supplementary reference in the Avenfield case by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The NAB had filed three corruption references against Nawaz Sharif and his family under the light of the Supreme Court’s (SC) July 28 Panama Case verdict that disqualified Nawaz.
The three references are related to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, offshore companies, and Avenfield properties of London. Nawaz is accused in all three cases whereas his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar are accused in the Avenfield reference only.
Nawaz along with Maryam and Safdar reached the Federal Judicial Complex from the Punjab House to appear before Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir as the court resumed hearing the corruption references against the Sharif family on Tuesday. Nawaz’s sons Hussain and Hasan were already declared proclaimed offenders due to their continuous failure in appearing before the court.
In today’s hearing, Nawaz counsel Khawaja Harris objected to the supplementary arguing that there was nothing new in the reference.
“The reference is not in accordance with the apex court’s directions,” said Khawaja Haris. He urged the court not to accept the reference.
The court, after hearing the NAB team arguments on the filing of the reference, reserved its judgement which was announced later.
