KARACHI: The first winter rainfall of the season has made the weather pleasant; however power supply to major areas of the city has remained suspended due to rainfall for a second consecutive day.
More than 200 feeders tripped early on Saturday morning plunging the city into darkness.
The intermittent rain continued in major areas of Karachi on second day causing power breakdowns in areas such as Orangi Town, Site, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Landhi, Korangi, New Karachi and Surjani Town.
The water supply to major areas of Karachi was also cut. Power supply to several pumping stations also remained suspended due to the breakdown.
The problems were exacerbated by the fact that all operational officers of administrative departments left for home after the rain instead of addressing people’s complaints. K-Electric complaint centres failed to mitigate people’s issues.
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar also visited various localities and expressed his resentment over the poor sewerage system as the standing water on streets caused severe traffic jams on busy roads.
The weather however did prompt hosts of citizens to visit places such as Sea View, Dream World, Hawks Bay, the ongoing Karachi Food festival and other well-known locations to enjoy the pleasant weather and distract themselves from facility problems.
