KARACHI: The National Highway Authority (NHA) is charging enhanced toll tax from motorists on the incomplete Karachi-Hyderabad motorway (M9), irking the Sindh government over the violation.
Condemning the step, Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that collection of toll tax on the Karachi-Hyderabad motorway was against the constitution, as not even 60 percent of the road had been constructed so far.
He said that tax on heavy traffic had been increased from Rs 80 to Rs 800, and added that the issue would be raised during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s next visit to the metropolis.
He said that collection of toll tax on the incomplete road was not fair, and added that the federal government had been forwarded the concerns of the Sindh government in this regard. “I would request Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to raise the issue with Nawaz Sharif when he visits Karachi on February 3,” he added.
