ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court Thursday adjourned the hearing of the judges detention case against former president Pervez Musharraf, till March 11.
ATC Judge Sohail Ikram heard the case against the former dictator here.
The counsel for the former president, Akhtar Shah Advocate argued before the court that security arrangements should be made to ensure the attendance of his client as he was facing security threats.
He said the Interior Ministry had not assured to make security arrangement for Musharraf for him to return and face the court.
The court observed that Pervez Musharraf would be provided security anywhere in the country if he returned.
The court asked Musharraf’s counsel to present a photo copy of the former president’s return ticket then the court would direct the Interior Ministry to make security arrangements for him. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till March 11.
Meanwhile, an Anti?Terrorism Court Thursday reserved its verdict in a matter regarding removal of Anti?Terrorism Act (ATA)’s sections from the Dr. Imran Farooq murder case.
The ATC Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi heard the murder case of the former leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The accused Moazzam Ali’s counsel Barrister Saif adopted the stance that this murder incident didn’t come under the jurisdiction of the ATA as no terror was caused due to this. He argued that the murder incident of PPP’s leader Benazir Bhutto was an act of terrorism, which spread fear across the country.
He prayed the court to issue directives to remove the ATA sections from Imran Farooq murder case.
Barrister Saif said wife of Imran Farooq didn’t alleged his client in the murder case, saying that only the FIA was claiming that the accused including his clients, Muhammad Anwar, Iftikhar Hussain and MQM’s chief were involved in the incident.
He said that his clients were illegally arrested and detained.
After hearing the arguments, the court reserved its verdict in the case and adjourned hearing.
