JAMRUD: At least six suspected militants were killed and as many were injured when jets pounded their hideouts in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Wednesday.
Security sources said that warplanes destroyed at least two hideouts of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). One of the hideouts – located in the Rajgal area of Tirah right on the border with Afghanistan – was used by terrorists as an ammunition dump, they revealed.
Rajgal and its surrounding areas were considered to be a stronghold of militants. However, successive military operations have decreased their influence. In August 2016, the military mounted a relatively small-scale operation, codenamed Khyber-III, to secure Tirah and deny terrorists ease of movement between the Khyber and Kurram agencies.
In a related development, the military claimed on Wednesday that security forces have thwarted a terror bid in Zhob district of Balochistan. “The Frontier Constabulary, Balochistan, seized a huge cache of explosives and ammunition during a raid on a compound,” the military’s media wing said in a statement.
