ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Wednesday claimed to have seized 2.9 tonnes of drugs worth Rs 14 billion from across the country.
The drugs comprised of 2.52 tonnes of heroin, 379Kg of hashish, and 5.5Kg of methamphetamine. The ANF also arrested 10 accused, including a woman.
The Quetta ANF seized 2.52 tonnes of heroin from Naushki and Kalat. The Rawalpindi ANF seized 2Kg hashish from Muhammad Zafran, a resident of Kohistan, near Jutial Bus Stand, Gilgit. Meanwhile, the Lahore ANF arrested Naseem Masih, a resident of Sargodha from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore while he was boarding a plane for Saudi Arabia and seized 2.25Kg of heroin. The officials also seized 720 grammes of heroin from a parcel containing baby garments being sent to Canada.
The ANF intercepted a car near Thokar Niaz Baig and seized 25.2Kg of hashish. Two accused, James Johnson and David, residents of Peshawar, were arrested. The officials arrested a passenger, identified as Atif Ali, a resident of Sialkot, at Multan Airport and seized 900 grammes of heroin. The officials also arrested Faisalabad a woman from Faisalabad, identified as Nazia Shahzadi, and seized 290 grammes of heroin and 1.2Kg of hashish from her.
The Karachi ANF intercepted a container at Karachi International Container Terminal and seized 4.5Kg of heroin and 5.5kg of methamphetamine. The container was headed to the UAE. The ANF also raided a house in Masoom Shah Colony, Kala Pul and seized 324Kg of hashish. Two accused, Irfan and Imran were also arrested.
In another operation, the ANF seized 20Kg of hashish from the accused, identified as Abdul Shakoor, a resident of Chaghi. The accused was arrested from a passenger bus in Khairpur.
The ANF arrested a drug dealer, Dharmal, a resident of Mirpur Khas and seized 7Kg of hashish from him. He was arrested near Total Petrol Pump, Ghulam Shah Kalhoro Flyover, Hyderabad.
