LAHORE: Churches across the provincial capital celebrated Palm Sunday with processions and special prayer ceremonies amid tight security on Sunday.
Loads of Christian families thronged churches and participated in prayer ceremonies where they also sang hymns.
Special prayers were also offered for prosperity and sovereignty of the country, while message of unity, love and peace basked in addresses of priests. Foolproof security measures were ensured by the city police to avoid any untoward incident.
Prayer ceremonies were held at St Joseph Church Shahdman under the supervision of senior Pastor Ilyas Samuel, while Archbishop Sebastian Francis addressed a large number of participants of a prayer ceremony at Sacred Heart Cathedral Church.
Christian community also took out a procession under the leadership of Pastor Shahzad Siddiq in which Pastor Azhar Siddiq, Pastor Joel, Pastor Adil and Pastor Latif also participated.
Palm Sunday is celebrated every year a week before Easter. The day also marks the beginning of ‘Holy Week’ for Christians. Several religious rituals are performed throughout the ‘Holy Week’.
