ISLAMABAD: A new cell of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Sports and Culture Department has been set up for monitoring matters regarding sports and play grounds in different sectors of the federal capital.
CDA sources said cricket, hockey and football grounds existing under its control have been short listed.
In the first phase, control of areas such as the National cricket ground, the Shalimar cricket ground, Marghzar cricket ground, Al-Faisal hockey ground and I-9 football ground would be taken over. In the second phase the Diamond cricket ground, Al-Sheikh cricket ground and Punjab cricket ground would be brought under the CDA’s control.
These grounds would be run under a private-public partnership. In addition, new grounds would be set up while old grounds would be upgraded out of the income generated from their use.
According to reports, the CDA chairman has directed in writing to the Sports and Culture director ordering for a complete record of income being generated from these grounds to be collected and ground staff appointed in the accounts department.
