LAHORE: The Punjab government in a retaliation move Sunday suspended more protesting doctors as the strike of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) continued for the sixth consecutive day in the public sector hospitals across the province.
According to sources, the government has prepared a strategy to induct new doctors to counter the strike. The government has warned suspended doctors of a strict action if they would enter hospitals’ premises.
Moreover, the YDA office-bearers have threatened to boycott emergency wards at all public sector hospitals if their demands are not met. They said that they won’t allow the government to induct new comers.
Resultantly, the standoff between the government and the protesting doctors has put patients and their attendants in the soup as outdoor wards of the major government hospitals, including Services Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Lahore General Hospital and Children’s Hospital, remained closed.
Young doctors forcefully suspended the medical services in outdoor and indoor wards over suspension of their colleagues.
In this connection, Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab along with Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Sabir visited different departments of the Lahore General Hospital and inspected provision of medical facilities.
The principal claimed that all possible medical facilities were being provided to patients and all departments of LGH were functioning as per normal routine. He said that around 3,000 patients were provided medical cover in outdoor and other sections of the hospital. He said that no patient would be left unattended in any ward.
