LONDON: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that there had been complaints of people being kidnapped ahead of the NA-120 by-election.
Talking to reporters, Nawaz said that he was closely reviewing the situation. He praised Maryam Nawaz for successfully running the election campaign in NA-120.
PM calls on Nawaz:
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called on Nawaz Sharif on Sunday.
Sources said the premier, accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, discussed political as well as regional security issues with Nawaz. The meeting took place at the office of Hassan Nawaz. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was also present at the meeting.
Khawaja Asif later told reporters that they were in London to inquire about the health of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz. To a question, he said that Kulsoom Nawaz would undergo a few more surgeries for the treatment of her cancer.
Asif said complaints about wrongdoings in NA-120 would be raised with the Election Commission. He said the local leadership was handling the matter.
PM Abbasi had arrived in London on Saturday en route to New York to participate in the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) commencing from September 18. He is expected to address the UNGA session on September 21.
