SRINAGAR: Expressing solidarity with the families of Bomai ,Sopore, Begum Bagh, Kakapora whose members were allegedly beaten by the armed forces, the Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani has said “the role of police and their track record in past had always been doubtful in such incidents”.
“Till now not a single culprit was brought to book and it is as such an attempt to cool down the people’s resentment and hush up the case,” Geelani in a statement expressing his deep anguish over the incidents in which forces severely thrashed members of these families.
“There seems to be no let-up until these cases are investigated by impartial agencies. There is every apprehension that these incidents will be repeated and will go unnoticed,” he added.
Meanwhile, reacting to the continued arrest of senior pro-freedom leader Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, the Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar in a statement “The 75-year-old leader is suffering from multiple ailments and expressed serious concern over his deteriorating condition.”
