ISLAMABAD: Former Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman Dr Attaur Rehman said that the government was eager to dissolve the HEC through the 18th Amendment as the commission was revealing the fake degrees of parliamentarians.
While giving an interview to a media group, Rehman said that formation of national development programmes, verification of degrees and maintenance of quality education could be obstructed by giving the powers of higher education to provinces under 18th Amendment.
With poor and incompetent policies of governments, the quality of education has been reducing day by day. Moreover, with an increase in budget allocated for education by the current government, the quality of education has elevated significantly.
There is no Pakistani university included in the top 100 universities due to the poor policies and decisions made by the governments.
Rehman said the government should focus on providing quality education to 100 million competent students who were an asset to Pakistan’s future.
